Atrio de la Alhambra / Álvaro Siza + Juan Domingo Santos

Portuguese Pritzker prized Architect Álvaro Siza Vieira along with Spanish Architect Juan Domingo Santos have been awarded the first prize for the ‘Atrio de la Alhambra International Ideas Competition’, a new reception building for tourists who visit the exquisit Alhambra Castle in Granada Spain.

According to the Architects, the project entitled ‘New Door’, is probably the work of their lives, being that they have designed a building right next to one of the most impressive buildings of all times.

And as Juan Domingo says, the building establishes itself as ‘a neutral intervention with the arid tonalities of the Alhambra and with a series of courtyards which articulate the visitors facilities.

It is a game of shadows, water and trees, which makes it almost like a garden’.
