Eamespunk Chair Remix / Levitt Goodman Architects and Hot Pop Factory

This 3D printed sculpture was created for reDesign 2012, a charity event for the Textile Museum of Canada, which asked 40 designers to re-imagine 40 Eames-style chairs for auction.

Levitt Goodman Architects partnered up with Hot Pop Factory, a studio devoted to rapid prototyped jewellery to create ‘Eamespunk,’ a spinal sculpture composed of hundreds of unique miniature replicas of the Eames’ classic DSW chair.

Just as the Eameses explored form through new fabrication processes, we used a 3D printer to freely replicate and transform the DSW saddle into a new form that is both technological and organic.

After seeing the project, Bruce Sterling (contributing journalist to Wired magazine) and William Gibson (Sci-fi author) coined the name “Eamespunk” on Twitter.
