The analysis of the city of Riga, and more precisely, of what has been its urban development starting from the Middle Ages until recent times, basically resulted in 4 fundamental moments of the city’s development: тАРthe Medieval part of downtown; тАРthe wellтАРestablished part; тАРthe creation of districts based on planning experiments in the second half of the 1900. тАРthe urban sprawl.

The data regarding the development of the district of Rumbula, the analysis linked to the historic progress, have been conserved together in order to create an active system composed by vectors able to generate directions for development. These directions led to the definition of a 3тАРD grid, and to the definition of an “expanded” and unique typology of the building in contrast with the fragmentation proposed by the old plan.

A significant role of socializing has been given to the green areas. The critical grid that guided these choices has guaranteed a continuous balance of values. Every topic of the project has been addressed in order to satisfy the harmony among the three big spheres of influence: 1.

Individuality of single subjects who have lived and used the space 2. Socializing in order to guarantee diverse and always new occasions for living together and sharing spaces; creating a desire of belonging without ever extinguishing the need of individuality.

3. Ecology trying to establish not only parameters for environmental respect, but also modalities for intervening, enabled to influence positively the future of the environment of this settlement. A complex system has been developed as the result of complex schemes of interconnecting plots, networks inside bigger networks following a holistic idea focused on cooperation rather than competition, quality rather than quantity, partnership rather than domination.
