Jacob Hashimoto‘s ephemeral installations, often done in an overall soft white hue and constructed from light rice paper, intend to simulate nature.© JACOB HASHIMOTO

This is showcased in two of his site-specific installations—Superabundant Atmosphere and Silence Still Governs Our Consciousness—where the New York-based artist uses hundreds of small bamboo and paper kite-like elements strung together in chains , creating a densely layered and fragmented tapestry of image or pattern.© JACOB HASHIMOTO

As stated on his website: “While the individual components remain more or less abstract, overall, clusters of pattern, stripes, or waves of color are formed, giving the works a pictorial quality that suggests organic forms, vistas, scrolling video games, or even board games… entrancing the viewer with their continuously shifting illusion of light, space, motion, and sense of flight.© JACOB HASHIMOTO
