The major goal for the design was to combine scenic infrastructure with the core of the norwegian landscapes - into a spectacular travel experience – powered by architecture.
Brief
Vøringsfossen is a national icon on the mountain pass between Eastern and Western Norway. It has a service centre and 500 000 visitors each year.© code
It is located in Måbødalen, which is a string of valleys stretching from Western Norway’s coastline to Hardangervidda, 1200 meters above sea level. The project area forms a striking landscape plateau, 600 metres above sea level, encircled by characteristic mountain faces with the 200 meter high Vøringsfossen (Vørings Fall) as the central element of the landscape.© code
The project reflects the desire to put visitors in play with the landscape through an elliptic loop, an infrastructural tool and a superimposed element partly inside, upon and over the surface, into open space.
The design is formed as a circular ramp which defines the edge of a natural plateau landscape. A 360 degree panoramic view is opened up to the public through continuous maneuvering alternating between trail, path, ramp and bridge.© code
The project is designed as an iconic outline in the dramatic landscape, a closed connection which spans across the ravine of the valley. In the direction of the roads, maneuvering is done by following a trail system and other infrastructure.
An architectonic element which links infrastructure to nature and connects experiences to the landscape.© code
A design which answers topologically in its meeting with the topography of the area.
The project is made to meet the needs of Vøringfossen as a tourist attraction.© code
