MOOT chair / ross lovegrove

british furniture brand established & sons has been focussing on developing cutting edge products that test the limits of strength and lightweight mediums, so their partnership with ross lovegrove – the designer known for embracing and developing emerging technologies — is not surprising.

together they have collaborated on the realization of ‘MOOT’ (mood of our time), a carbon fiber chair that features a cantilevered seat that turns towards the back of the seat, something which would not be as feasible with another material.

the design recalls alberto meda’s ‘lightlight’ chair for alias, and expresses lovegrove’s penchant for organic and sinuous lines; formally and structurally drawing on the skin dynamics of a single surface that adheres to and respects the contours of the human anatomy, and concept of the ‘exoskeleton’ for support.
